This unit discussed teaching vocabulary, grammatical structures and language functions. For every discussion topic that was introduced the unit made clear any possible teaching difficulties that may arise from teaching these topics as well as the reasons that the students need to know them. Different examples were given for different levels of students and cultural sensitivity was also explained. After each explanation was given there was a rudimentary layout for how a possible ESA method lesson plan would proceed. All ESA methods were shown; straight-arrow, boomerang as well as patchwork styles and which aspect of language teaching they may best be suited for. No hard rules were given and flexibility was encouraged.
