This unit covered the most effective ways to teach the receptive skills, which are reading and listening. It gave examples of effective organization of lesson plans, and how not to confuse students by using too difficult of reading or listening passages. The breakdown of different types of receptive skills was useful; understanding the diffference between scanning, skimming, and predictive skills can help an English teacher give her students a more well-rounded listening ability, instead of strengthening just one aspect. I think this helps students to help themselves, because they can use real life examples to help their language skills, such as watching the news, reading a newspaper, or watching an English TV programme.
