Class management involves the physical arrangement of the seats in the class as well as the teacher's voice and actions in managing and facilitating activities. The arrangement of the class is heavily restricted by the size of the class. Smaller groups allow for more variety and can be arranged in a more intimate shape, such as a horseshoe, which facilitates group work and encourages all students to take part in the lesson. Activities should be structured in a way that 1) motivates students to use English and 2) can be easily monitored by the teacher to ensure students are using the language properly. Activities should seek to reduce Teacher Talk Time to a reasonable amount and increase Student Talk Time as much as possible.
