Unit 9 is all about coursevbooks and lesson materials. It distinguishes between two types of materials- authentic and created. Authentic materials are those found in the real world - newspapers, songs, magazines, etc. Created materials include those made by the teachers themselves (or helpers/ previous teachers) including crosswords, flash cards, word searches, etc. This unit also covered coursebooks - when they're useful and their pros and cons. Using a course book will provide a useful outline and is easier than starting from scratch, but too much usage will make tthe class repetitive, predicatable, and quite boring. A good teacher will use a course book, but will omit unrelevant chapters and and add extra course materials.
