This unit covered phonetics and pronunciation. It discussed the concepts of how we make the sounds of the English language and when we should apply different tones and rhythms in order to convey appropriate meanings. It also provided ideas for teaching students these phonetics and pronunciation concepts. Many of these classroom tools were new to me, as I had never before thought about how to directly teach sounds and tones.This unit was extremely helpful in allowing me to see a visual demonstration of what a good and a bad lesson plan. I also learned how important building rapport can be and it is extremely helpful to know the names of the students in order to increase participation and engagement. The importance of having a positive attitude and smiling at the students was also extremely important in understanding how to engage the students.
