This unit introduced me to the beginning basics of grammar. This unit particularly focussed on basic sentence structure, the purpose of words that form our sentences and what role they fill in the English language. This unit taught me how to identify and understand the many different parts of speech that form our sentences as well as any general rules that may apply to any particular grammar point. The unit also made a point of teaching me that there are often many exceptions to the aforementioned rules and parts of speech. The unit further elaborated that these exceptions often have to be committed to memory and thus can prove difficult for students to learn, or even be the source of more common student/teacher mistakes. Overall this unit taught me much despite only scratching the surface of English grammar and despite its perceived complexity by myself, has enthusiastically piqued my interest in the wider subject as a whole. It is something I intend to further expand my knowledge on with the continued use of recommended resources as I continue to work through future units.
