Teach English in Yulongba Zhen [LaoAoba XiAng] - Bijie Shi
In this unit I have learnt: 1)Modal auxilary verbs. The \"modals\" are: can, could, may, might, etc. They are used before other verbs to add meaning to the main verb(obligation, posdibility, ability, advicepremission, prohibition, probability). They also can express different degrees of formality. 2) Passive voice. There are two voices in English-active and passive. In the passive voice, the object of an active verb becomes the subject of the passive verb. Only transitive verbs are used in passive voice(sell, buy, etc.) It is impossible to use intransitive verbs(happen, seem, sleep, etc.)in the passive voice. We use passive voice when we do not want to say who performs the action, when it is not imporyant the performance or when it is not known. 3)Phrasal vetbs. They consist of a verb plus 1 or 2 particles and they operate as one item. There are 3 types of phrasal verbs: 1) Intransitive-can not be followed by a direct object. 2) Transitive seperable- only come between the verb and the particle. 3) Transitive inseparable- the object phrase or the object pronoun both come affter the particle.
