A primary teacher myself, I was fully aware of the characteristics that make a good learner and a good teacher. Passion and thus motivation is key both from the student and the teacher in helping gain progress in language learning. I believe in authentic and purposeful learning and ensure that in my own practice, students are given meaningful contexts, e.g. creating a classroom exchange bureau to help learn how to convert 'units/ones' into bundles of tens. As I have only taught 3-11 years in the past, I found the unit about adult learners to be most interesting. The life experiences they bring to the lesson can effect their learning in both positive and negative ways. On one hand they have greater attention skills and have in most circumstances, the ability to read and write, however, their fixed mindsets can slow their progress down as experiences may have told them 'that they are just not talented'. The different levels an ESL learner will undergo was also of great interest to me. I am currently learning another language myself and was curious about my own path in learning.
