This unit clarified the different types of evaluations, assessments, and testing that can be used in specific situations. I personally feel that the initial diagnostic evaluation, to determine each students current level of understanding or English skill, is critical when developing lesson plans. This initial evaluation will allow me to ensure that lesson plans are geared toward the entire student body, and also ensure that students are placed in appropriate classes or groups. I also plan to conduct weekly assessment tests to track student progress and understanding. I learned that practice tests will not only prepare students in terms of course content knowledge, but also to get a feel for how the upcoming test will be written and structured. One thing that I had never considered in terms of evaluation is having students evaluate teaching methods and materials. After this unit, I can recognize how teacher and material evaluation will allow for continuous course and teaching growth and development. I highly value constructive feedback, and appreciate the opportunity for growth.
