This unit cover different theories and related methodologies used in teaching english in ESL classrooms. I learned quite a bit about different practical applications of different theories, and ones I had not encountered before but that interested me greatly were: suggestopia, the silent way, and task-based learning. The tasks at the end of the unit helped me activate what I had learned, and required that I create my own small lesson plans. To create more lesson plans, I discovered that I will need to put more time into learning about cultural differences I may have wtih my prospective students. But the general practice was useful. Having already taken foreign language classes, I recognized some methods that I've experienced as a student, and reading about them from the perspective of a teacher was useful in comparing and contrasting the pros and cons of each method by recognizing also what worked and did not work for me as a student. One thing I am lacking at this point in the course is more nuance in lesson examples that would help me prepare for teaching english to arabic speakers.
