One of the things that I think would be helpful to learn and practice is adapting course material for the class and using it in a more ESA aligned structure. For example, the volunteer opportunities I have had working with a local non profit teaching English wanted to use a specific course book for the beginner students. However, working through the material with the students was difficult because it was developed for a much younger age and I was working with adults. They already had a basic understanding of the alphabet and some basic words but I was told I was strictly to go through the course, and I could do it as quickly as I felt necessary to move onto other items. That put me in a weird situation to where I felt I was not being as effective as I would desire, and the students seemed almost belittled by the course. However, if at the time, I could have known more about the ESA method, I felt I could have appropriately changed the structure of the lesson, while still using the core of the course to appease the organization and also get the students excited about language learning.
