Unit Nine covered the use of course materials such as textbooks, auditory segments, and teachers book. It covered the different uses of authentic materials and created materials and the positives and negatives of each approach. It also covered the positive parts of having a course textbook, such as providing a tried-and-true syllabus, a mixture of material, and continuity, as well as the negative parts, such as allowing the teacher to be uncreative, not catering to student needs, and a potential to be outdated. The unit covered the best ways to use a textbook, such as adding supplementary materials and only basing lessons on the book, as well as how to choose the best textbook if allowed. The unit also provided examples of good materials that could be created or provided. I learned pretty much all of the information about course materials since I have never had to select course materials and found the lists of tips for using such materials extremely helpful. I also enjoyed reading the telephone prompt card activities, it seems like a great way to practice a common communicative skill.
