Unit 6 looked at the sentence structure for past tense. It talked about the four forms of past tense that are used in english, the Past Simple, the Past Perfect, Past Continuous and the Past Perfect Continuous. In the past I have had troubles distinguishing these forms from one another, but this chapter has clearly laid out their usages for me to understand. The four forms clearly explained the time frames that an action had taken place on or is continuing to do so from a point in the past. The Past simple relates to actions that have finished at a definite time in the past. The Past Perfect relates to an action that has completely finished before another action takes place in the past. The Past Continuous is about an action that was continuing in the past and uses a particular time reference to describe it. The Past Perfect Continuous relates to an action that started in the past and continued for awhile in the past, and stopped at some particular point of time, usually expressed with a reference to time. I feel my understanding of these forms has been strengthened and expanded upon.
