Reading and listening are two of four basic skills in any language learning, they are also called ' receptive skills'. Any reading or listening activity is conducted by two reasons: reading or listening for a particular purpose, or for entertainment and pleasure. In fact, reading and listening are not only about ears or eyes, they are also about how our brains process the information. Sometimes, we read and listen just to get a general understanding of the content; sometimes, to look for a specific detail, or to predict the content from headlines, or to know what's beyond the literal meaning of the content.However, for a healthy reading and listening activity, we should consider the following factors: avoiding language issues by pre-teaching vocabulary and wise selection of texts, choosing some interesting topics, making students engaged and motivated to the task, and enforcing comprehension activities.
