The videos in Unit 6 offered helpful examples of the choices available to teachers in the classroom and the consequences of these choices for learning outcomes. The most prominent takeaway from the videos concerned the tremendous importance of the teacher's attitude -- toward his students, and toward the material. In the first video, the teacher's evident lack of interest in the proceedings had a clear stultifying effect on the class. Students were hesitant to participate and important points were garbled, largely due to the teacher's disobliging manner. In the second video, the teacher's enthusiasm, and his kind manner with the students, encouraged greater participation and a more successful engagement with the topic under consideration. This general trend was further reflected in the correction of certain bad habits evident in the first video, e.g. failure to remember students' names, unclear instructions, and a lack of encouraging feedback. The videos serve as a helpful reminder of the sort of habits behaviors that are likely to promote a healthy and successful classroom environment.
