This unit covers the traits of an effective teacher and the various roles he/she has to perform. Teachers need to be knowledgeable and love teaching, but they also need to build relationships with their students in en effort to effectively motivate and engage them on a consistent basis. Teachers wear many \"hats\" while teaching, from manager to facilitator to prompter and more, and it is imperative that they know how and when it is appropriate and necessary for them to take on each role within a lesson. The unit also discusses the traits of an effective student and compares younger learners to adults ones while listing other aspects to consider such as motivation and language ability. Students need to be engaged and motivated to learn effectively. Adult learners will bring different motivations, experiences, and attention-spans to the classroom than younger learners will. It is important to understand this and plan lessons accordingly. Learners will also enter and learn at various language levels and learning rates, so the teacher must know how to reach each student's level effectively.
