Intonation is the variation in volume and pitch in a sentence. The normal pattern is rise/fall. The fall at the end indicates you are done saying what you wanted to say. Fall/rise is used when you expect a response. Flat is used when you don't have much to say or don't want to talk. Stress refers to the word in the sentence that is emphasized or the syllable in a word that is emphasized. In a sentence, the word that is stressed indicates the meaning of the sentence. In normal speech, there are more syllables without stress than with stress. Sound joining can occur via linking, sound dropping, sound changing, or extra lettering. Linked speech occurs during normal speech such as \"want to\" actually being said as \"wanna.\" The Phonemic Alphabet can be used to help with pronunciation. The speech organs are the tongue, larynx, glottis, alveolar ridge, hard palate, and soft palate. Places of articulation include velar, palatal, palatal-alveolar, alveolar, dental, labio-dental, bilabial, and glottal. The manners of articulation are plosive, fricative, nasal, lateral , affricate, and approximant.
