This unit explains the different methodologies of teaching vocabulary, grammar and functions to foreign students. At the beginning stage, vocabulary is always considered important, thus student will feel more secure when they have reached the understanding of an amount of vocabulary, therefore the task of selecting the right vocabulary for the students becomes crucial at this moment. The teacher needs to evaluate the frequency of usage, the teachability, and if the vocabulary is appropriate for the class or the activity at the moment. The difficulty of the vocabularies will depend on the similarity to the student native language, proper way to use, resemblance to other known English words, pronunciation and spelling. The unit also depicts several crucial examples of applying the ESA planning for vocabulary lesson, grammar structure lesson, typical grammar lesson, and others.
