It is noted that the tense system is probably the area of the English language that's most difficult for students and teachers. Particular attention is given to the importance that any EFL teacher knows this system well. It is recommended to take a practical approach that there are three different tenses in the English language which include the present, the past and the future. This unit covers the present tense. There are four present tenses; the present simple, present continuous, present perfect and present perfect continuous. Each of the present tenses are defined using form showing positive, negative and question examples of the tense, the main usages with examples of each usage, thoughts about typical student errors/mistakes and sample activate stage teaching ideas. Growing up with the English language and learning to formulate grammatically correct tenses has come naturally to me. Studying how to teach the concept of tenses is more difficult. I can appreciate how as a teacher of EFL one needs to have a solid understanding of the tense system to teach these applications with confidence.
