Receptive skills-reading and listening are equally important. Often the teacher would concentrate mre on a specific skill, bt it is important to bring in other skills to create a more balanced lesson. Reasons for reading and listening is to help achieve a speific aim or goal and other times just because we enjoy reading. Sometimes reasons for reading and listening would include achieving a goal and also at the same time because it is enjoyable. How we read and listen is not simply a matter of ees and ears, also a matter to use our minds to understand words and process them in our pe-existent knowledge to gain true understanding. Students shouls be comfortable with receptive skills and get used to the idea of not trying to understand everything word by word. The teacher should try and choose topics in which the students are interested, to gain their interest and motivate them to learn. It is also important for the teacher to get the students engaged or interested in a certain topic by using picture, mime, video etc. Students should be challenged in a good way so the will become more confident.
