In this lesson I learned about course development. I learned that upon the first meeting of a class, a level test should be given by the teacher to see where everyone is at in their English ability in the classroom for the purpose of lesson planning and making a syllabus. These tests show levels such as elementary, pre-intermediate, intermediate, lower advanced, and advanced. After that, a needs analysis should be given to the students so that the teacher knows what it is the students feel that they need to learn in order to be successful in their jobs. I also learned about different kinds of syllabus designs such as the structural syllabus, the functional/notional syllabus, the learner-led syllabus, the situational syllabus, the student syllabus, the material syllabus, and the organizational syllabus. I learned that there are many kinds of end of course assessments that include a diagnostic, and placement, and aptitude, and achievement, a proficiency, and a progress test. There are also two kinds of course evaluations, the student evaluations and the teacher?s evaluation of the students.
