This module is focused on teaching methodology of English to non native students. The various roles that a teacher may be required to assume in the classroom are discussed and include instructing, policing, counseling among others. The advantages and disadvantages of teaching a group versus individual one on one tutoring are discussed. Various skill requirements to be attained include reading, listening,speaking and writing. An array of teaching methodologies are compared and include traditional grammar translations, listening and repetition drills and natural language acquisition theories. Student interaction may center on a specific task to elicit English speaking activities. Also the approaches of presentation of material, practice of language skills and productivity skills of learned content may be used as a student centered approach. The ESA approach is discussed as well focusing on engagement in English speech, study of grammar and other rules based content and finally an activation phase whereby the skills attained are practiced in a group setting the emphasis on interaction in English.
