This unit was about recognizing the parts of a sentence. It covered nouns, verbs, articles, prepositions, gerunds, pronouns, adjectives and adverbs. Not only did it define each term but it also gave the different forms that each can take. For example, there are two different types of verbs; transitive and intransitive. Then there were examples along with the definitions. As I was reading the examples I would visualize how I would teach these ideas in class. One thing I came up with was for prepositions of place. I thought of bringing a small box to class and an apple. I would then place the apple IN the box, UNDER the box, OVER the box etc. so the students will have a visual of the preposition. I also like the idea the unit gave about teaching superlatives. I will probably use that in class as well. The adverb games will also be useful. When I was learning a foreign language one of the parts of speech that would give me trouble was learning pronouns. I especially had a difficult time with the pronoun as the subject or object. The unit gave a good explanation on how to help students with that.
