Teach English in Honglin Yizu Miaozu XiAng - Bijie Shi
The importance of eye contact, gesture and voice. I feel that I have learnt about the importance of gestures and visual aids. A teacher shouldn't do all the explaining, giving instructions etc in English in order to expose the students to as much English as possible. It is helpful to at least accompany it with gestures. Also it is good to know when to and when not too have eye contacts with the students. I learned about the different classroom seatings and what it actually does to the students and the kind of atmosphere is created in the classroom. At first I would have tought to involve all students, also the silent ones, but now I know that is not necessary. If people want to stay in the background that is totally fine. I learned some good ways to establish rapport and I believe that will already prevent a lot of disciplinary issues. Whenever discipline needs to be maintained it is good for a teacher to be firm in the beginning and be more relaxing over time. This is a very good thing to know. Naturally I would generally be to lax, but a teacher can be relaxed and be strict at the same time.
