Unit 3 explained that it is important to make an assessment to find out what learners know and what they need to know. Then, on the first lesson, do a needs analysis. It is better to engage in needs analysis after the level test so the groups will be based on what they need and their level. The unit also discussed the level descriptors and the 5 level scale are as follows: Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Lower Advanced, and Advanced. The needs analysis is important so that you can have an idea of the past learning experiences of the students, what they use English for at work, and what will help them improve in their field. I also learned the different types of syllabus and the functions of each. The 6 different types of tests namely: Diagnostic, Placement, Aptitude, Achievement, Proficiency, and Progress were explained. The unit mentioned the three business examinations available namely: CEIBT, SEFIC, and LCCI. Lastly, this unit gave reasons why it is advisable to have some form of evaluation. End-of-course questionnaires are an efficient way of gathering information from students.
