This unit concerned sentence structure and parts of speech. Nouns, adjectives, articles, verbs, gerunds, pronouns, prepositions, and conjunctions were all discussed. As a native speaker, using parts of speech correctly in my daily speaking patterns is common. However, after studying this lesson, I now have a better understanding of the role each part of speech plays in the sentence structure. Previously, I never gave much thought to transitive and intransitive verbs. When I hear or see a sentence now, I can determine whether the verb is transitive or intransitive. Transitive verbs are a verb followed directly by an object. Cut, squash, and make are transitive verbs. Intransitive verbs are not followed directly by an object, they simply ?do? the action. For example: study, finish and cook can all be intransitive verbs. Go, fall, sleep, and peak are all intransitive verbs. As I continue to study and review the material covered in this unit, I will continue to improve my ability to teach English to others. I appreciate the thoroughness of the unit and the presentation of the topics.
