Methods and techniques for teaching Pronunciation and Phonology are examined in this unit. Two main aspects of Phonology are examined including; Intonation and Stress. Also, the phonemic alphabet and various aspects in relation to it such as speech organs, place and manner of articulation are examined. It is stated that pronunciation is often highly neglected in teaching English however it is a very vital part in teaching the language and it should be given more attention by teachers. I could understand why this is often neglected by teachers because I find it a very challenging topic to teach for several reasons. First because it is even challenging for the teacher to master the different phonemes, stress patterns and intonations,and secondly, it is difficult to effectively and clearly convey the meaning of these to students. However as mentioned in the unit, it shouldn't be neglected by teachers. Various techniques for teaching these are given in this unit which could be helpful to the teacher. A lot of practice should help the teacher master this area and therefore ease the teaching process.
