Teach English in Guda Miaozu Yizu XiAng - Bijie Shi
In unit three I learned various theories, methods, and techniques for teaching english. The theories explained ranged from those that were somewhat outdated to more modern ones. Most of the older theories focus on teaching a new language through a focus on the teacher and the students L1. The newer theories focus more on the student and the new language. In terms of methods, the main focus was on ESA. In this each lesson follows a plan where you engage the student, have them study, and then have them activate their knowledge. In the engage stage you have the student do some activity to warm them up for the rest of the lesson. In the study stage you present a new topic to the student and have them practice it. In the activate stage you have the student use the new things they learned in combination with their previous knowledge. Finally this unit taught techniques for each phase of ESA. It also explained how to correct, and the difference between an error and a mistake. A mistake is a slip of the tongue, and doesn't need to be corrected, while an error is normally repeated and needs to be corrected.
