This course provided several benefits for me. First, it gave me a needed review of grammar. Much of the grammar covered in this course I had not studied since high school. This has definitely increased my confidence in my ability to handle grammatical questions that ESL students may have. Second, and perhaps most importantly, this course really made me start to think as a teacher. I feel like I am much more prepared for the various challenges facing an ESL teacher than I was before taking this course. It has provided me with many tools that I can use to deal with these challenges as they arise. From discipline problems to the various difficulties students may encounter learning english, I now feel that I have a solid base to build upon. I plan on using the skills I have gained with this course in the public schools of South korea. I have applied for the February, 2011 semester and have been interviewed and accepted. My documents have been couriered to South Korea, and everything appears to be in order. My contract should be sent out in January, and then I will leave in February. Teaching ESL is providing me with an opportunity to experience a completely different culture with the various challenges and rewards that inevitably come with it. I expect to grow not only as a teacher, but as a person, all while doing a job that I can be proud of, and that will hopefully make a difference. This course has provided me with the confidence and skills I need to head into this new chapter of my life with a passion for teaching the South Korean students to the best of my ability.
