For many decades, English-speaking countries, such as the united states and Great Britain, have dominated the global market for goods and services. While this phenomenon is currently undergoing great change because other different countries, such as china and India, are gaining a large foothold in the global playground, the damage has been done, so to speak. The world?s economic infrastructure is soundly rooted in the English language and the U.S. financial system. It would be quite difficult, and perhaps dangerous, to alter this paradigm, hence people around the world acknowledge that learning English is necessary to participate in the global arena. In addition to English being the foundation for the global economy, English culture is becoming more and more widespread, permeating through the lives of billions of people in the world. English movies, music and literature are just a few things that people what to be able to partake in. And Science, the systematic study of the world around us, is always scrutinized by researchers around the world in an attempt to verify and replicate results. There are many countries throughout the world, primarily African countries, where English is not the most spoken language, yet is still the official language. This is primarily due to the previous British colonization of these areas. There are many benefits to learning English, but the world must be wary of subconsciously adopting a one-world language. Every country and its people have their own unique culture, each of which maintains its own influence on the global culture. Within each society, highly talented people, artists, scientists, philosophers and politicians, are likely to arise. In their own cultures they may thrive, but as English is becoming the dominant language, these gifted people are either drowned out or are required to pursue English, in which case it may detract from the very talents they aspire to evolve (CEPR.) In conclusion, it is very clear that English is a very influential language in the world, and it?s easy to see why people who have the opportunity to study English do so. In addition, there is a high demand for English teachers around the world. native speakers are highly valued for their innate language and teaching abilities so they teach English in countries around the world, in schools, homes and even businesses.
