Unit 11 is about evaluating students. The pros and cons of various types of evaluation methods are discussed, as well as how to use testing effectively in order to improve your students' experience. There are five types of tests: diagnostic tests, practice tests, placement tests, achievement tests, and external tests. In addition to these conventional tests, there are two other kinds of evaluations that can be done. The first is a Tutorial, in which the teacher spends the last 10-15 minutes of class reviewing what has been covered, discussing goals, how students did, and asking if there were any problems. The second is a student evaluation, where students are given the opportunity to evaluate how the class could improve, where they are struggling, and what they would like to see more of. So essential is this second type of evaluation that if necessary, this unit advises offering it in the classroom native language, in order to receive coherent feedback. Every good teacher should be aware of what types of external tests are on the market, and so this unit delves into the various types of external exams students may wish to study for. Overall, I learned a lot about teaching in this unit, and will be sure to evaluate my students more often, and do tutorials, so that I can make sure my students do not forget what I have taught them.
