This unit covered coursebooks and lesson materials. This included created materials (course books and teacher-made materials), and authentic materials. Created materials made by the teacher are usually used as a supplement to the coursebook, and can include crosswords, role-play cards, flashcards, gap fill activities, and picture stories. The advantages, disadvantages, usage methods, and selection criteria of course books are discussed in detail. It is usually best when a teacher uses a course book as a base, and creates material to target the level and interests of the specific class. As such, the teacher should not rely exclusively on the course book. Sample created material for role-plays and class activities are presented.
