This unit focuses on teaching productive skills: speaking and writing. Starting from stating the difference between fluency and accuracy and when respective activities should be carried out, the unit then moves onto speaking skills: which kind of activities can be carried out, which problems can be encountered and which techniques can be use to promote interaction and encourage students to speak freely. Then the unit focuses onto writing activities. In particular, additional factors that have to be considered when teaching writing skills are outlined: these include spelling, handwriting, layout and punctuation. Similarly to unit 11, helpful ESA examples are given for both a typical creative speaking and creative writing lessons.
