The tense system is quite a difficult and complicated subject. In unit 3, the four present tenses are covered, which are present simple. present continuous, present perfect, and present perfect continuous. Present simple tense has a subject and a verb, e.g. 'I cook rice.' On the other hand, present continuous has a subject+aux. verb \"be\"+verb -ing, e.g. 'I love reading books.' The present perfect tense has a subject+aux. verb \"have\"+past participle, e.g. 'I have known him for ages.' Lastly, present perfect continuous has a subject+aux. verb \"have\"+been+verb -ing, e.g. 'How long have you been waiting?' Each of the tenses can be expressed in affirmative, negative, and question with the above formulas or with a slight variation.
