In Unit 20: Troubleshooting, we learned about potentially difficult situations that could arise for English teachers; these include: big class sizes, students with different English levels and reluctant students. When dealing with large classes, teachers can use pair and group work, establish leaders of each group, use worksheets and present choral/repetitive exercises. If there are students with different levels of English in a class, a teacher can pair stronger students with weaker students, separate the class into two groups or they can simply do nothing! At the beginning of each class, the teacher can use warmers, such as hangman, Pictionary and tongue twisters, to get the class energised and motivated to practice their English.
