This chapter introduces the reader to a variety of methodologies, and primarily focuses on Jeremy Harmer's ESA (Engage, Study, Activate) method. Engage is when the teacher will try to get the students interested, Study is when new language is focused on and practiced in a controlled setting, and Activate is when students use both their new and previous knowledge to use the language more freely.?Examples of lesson structures and activities are provided. Additionally, explanations are given on how and when to correct student work in order to achieve the best results. Students need to be assisted, but not made to feel bad more their errors or mistakes. This ESA study method and correction method will be used throughout the course.
