Unit 15 covered evaluating students. The first part of the lesson covers the different ways to evaluate students. These are tutorials, evaluation by the students, and tests. Tutorials can be whole group or individual, but cannot be done every day. Evaluation by the students can be done through questionnaires or guided discussion. Tests are used for many purposes. There are placement tests, progress tests, diagnostic tests, practice tests, and general external examinations. The general external examinations are more formal and usually involve getting a certificate to prove your English speaking ability. Some of these tests are TOEFL, IELTS, and TOEIC. There are also a whole group of external examinations through the Cambridge Assessment.
