In this unit I definitely learned a lot about the breakdown of words and the importance of understanding how to stress words correctly. Stressing the correct words when speaking helps to get the correct context of what information is being relayed. I agree with the concern about teachers having a lack of confidence when teaching pronunciations and stresses. The idea ?If I cannot hear it how will they? rang true to me. I realized from this unit that I have a hard time figuring out the correct stresses on syllables. Whole words in a sentence are easy to figure out it is the syllables that get me. I found the phonemic alphabet to be interesting and even a bit fun. It would make a good extra credit assignment for advanced students.
