This unit covered ways on how to effectively manage a class. I've learnt how simple gestures such as eye contact can be used to keep students engaged. On the other hand, misuse can cause the opposite effect. When it comes to gestures, teacher/student talk time, or when to give certain students extra attention, the key idea seems to be balance. We must know not only when to take lead, but also when to loosen the reins to allow for a more intimate learning environment. The environment is also influenced by seating arrangement, for which the size and make up of the class should be carefully considered. Also covered are the pros and cons of different kinds of group work, and how many disciplinary issues can be avoided with a bit of foresight.
