Many teachers give less attention to the teaching of pronunciation because sometimes they lack the confidence and training to teach such skill effectively. So this unit focus on what is important to think about the way we teach pronunciation. On my part, I'm a non-native English speaker but when it comes to intonation, Portuguese (my first language) and English are a lot similar, so if i translated this whole part of the unit into Portuguese,the concepts and techniques would be pretty much the same! Studying the IPA is beneficial to students and teachers alike because it serves as a standard pronunciation guide for all varieties of English. If students are familiar with the IPA system, they can learn how to pronounce words on their own.
