This unit contained the basic parts of speech as an introduction to grammar. I learnt the names of the terms applied to the language I am using, and the various exceptions to each rule. Specifically, I didn't know what a definite (the) article, or an indefinite (a, an) article was. I also didn't know how to create adverbs, by adding \"ly\" to adjectives, with exceptions of course. I further didn't know that prepositions could be sorted into at least three categories, time/date, movement, and position/place. Lastly, I didn't know that words like and and or were called conjunctions. I believe that with this knowledge I will be taken more seriously as an english teacher, than if I simply knew the grammar but not the names or reasons behind it.
