This unit covered what parts of a new language are most important to teach a new speaker. It began by stating that there were four things that new students need to learn a language: exposure, understanding meaning, construction and pronunciation. Vocabulary could be seen as the building blocks that stabilize the language. I can imagine that this is one part of learning language that excites students. To know a word, even if you can not use it in a sentence, creates a feeling of progress which is always a propellant in education. The lesson plan examples were very useful, I feel that the examples of when to use boomerang vs. straight arrow course structures really allowed me to visualize teaching a class and how I would lay out a lesson plan.
