Unit 9 covers the basics of how to create and carry out lesson plans. The functions of writing lesson plans include having an aide for creating plans, having a working document that can be used as a flexible guide in class, and having a record to refer back to later in the school year. A thorough lesson plan should include learning objectives of the students, personal aims of the teacher, the language point being taught during that lesson, a list of teaching aids and materials, anticipated problems that might occur during class, a procedure of activities, ESA phase labels, estimated timing of each phase of the lesson, interactions between the teacher and students, class level, number of students, date/time, and the teacher's/observers' names.
