In this unit, (Unit 14: Coursebooks and lesson materials) I've learned about the 2 groups materials is divided into. 1.) authentic materials - is about anything a native speaker would hear or read can be described as authentic. Programs, magazines, newspapers, songs, poems, brochures, menus, films on video, etc. Authentic materials are real & therefore more interesting & motivating. Students gain confidence when they understand them and they can be geared to the interests of a particular group of students. 2.) Created materials - usually designed by the teacher to replace or supplement materials from a course book. Common created materials are: crosswords, word search puzzle, role-play cards, flashcards, gap fill activities & picture stories.
