With good pronunciation, students are able to properly pronounce words and understand others speakers? intonation meaning. Unfortunately, however, pronunciation is the most neglected aspect of English language teaching. In my country, only the students major in English in college learn phonetics in class. So almost everyone has a strong accent. In this unit, I?ve learned that phonology consists of intonation, stress, rhythm, and IPA. For English speakers, the rise or fall intonation, as well as stress, can mean differently. And I?ve even learned the techniques to teach phonology, like using the fun nonsense words, humming or singing out the sentences and even the visual diagram of the mouth to show how a particular sound is made.
