There are two receptive skills: reading ans listening. All reasons and motives for reading and listening can be devided into such categories: for a purpose and for entertaiment.Reading and listening are based upon person's pre-existent knoweledge. The understanding of the context will depend on readers and listeners predictive skills, scanning skills, general idea understanding, deduction from context skills. When teaching reading and listening we should pre-teach unknown language and structures first. Also the teacher has to select the texts carefully, focusing more on what students already know. The topic has to be interesting for all students in class. There are different tasks for reading and listening, such as jigsaw reading and jumbled texts.
