In this unit I learned the importance of creating lesson plans. Lesson plans are useful and necessary for providing an outline of the activities you wish to complete that you can reference during the class period. Creating a lesson plan helps you prepare the steps you will take, consider timing, and make a list of the materials you will need. Lesson plans also create records of what was taught in each class period. More experienced teachers will need simpler lesson plans with less detail. The lesson plan form and example provided a helpful model for creating thorough plans as a beginning teacher. Finally, the unit emphasized that lesson plans should not be rigid and sequences of lessons may have to be adjusted but still work towards long term goals.
