Unit Three begins by explaining different teaching theories, methods, and techniques before moving into the actual methodology of this course. The Engage, Study, and Activate methodology is what this course promotes, which takes some of the best methods from each theory that was previously mentioned. The unit goes on to explain that the teacher is not stuck in the \"Straight Arrow\" method of ESA, but can modify each lesson as he or she wishes. The \"Boomerang\" ESA method where the teacher can guide the class from Engage to Activate to Study back to Activate is a popular method as well as the \"Patchwork\" method, which is where the lesson will begin with Engage and end with Activate with any number of combinations of Study and Activate in-between.
