Past simple, continuous, perfect, and perfect continuous are the four past tenses. When I am in the middle of studying them, I can discern them well, but it is tough to do when I get away for even a short time. It will be difficult to get the differences across without the use of a native language, I am guessing.Obviously with the variety of usage of past tenses in English some students can have a really hard times.
