In this lesson we learned about the key elements of language that we would teach. These key elements are vocabulary, grammar and language functions. The vocabulary is chosen for the students level, and how often the words will be used or come across. The students ability to grasp the new words will be contingent upon the similarity of these new words to previously known words, similarity to own language and spelling and pronunciation. Usually A Straight arrow path is taken for new vocabulary words. When learning about grammar functions, the lessons chosen are mainly dictated by the level of the class as well as what the ciccurlium has been chosen for the students. The students need to learn the meaning, use and patterns of these grammar functions as well as the difference between what is written and what is actually spoken. Language functions are the terms and phrases that are conversational and are used for greeting, inviting, suggesting and refusing or agreeing. These are truly what help build conversations and discussions. Learning language function is paramount on the activation stage and will rely heavily upon roly play, discussion, acting out, and dialogue. These three functions are what help build completeness and wholeness to a new language that is being learned. They all play an integral part in getting a grasp on the language.
